I've been looking through the repository for a script, preferably PowerShell (but VBScript would be acceptable) that would accomplish the following: 1. Create a TCP/IP port for a 'local' printer, using the IP address of that (network) printer. Install the printer itself, with drivers. Note: I checked to see that the drivers (for a HP LaserJet 4250) are included on the target machines (Windows 7 SP1). About the examples found in the repository, does this script actually install the drivers? I would expect some lines about where to fetch the drivers? And once again, anything like this in PowerShell (which would work quite nicely on Windows 7)?
HP has a Universal Print Driver that simplifies the process of creating printers. Creating a printer in SCCM can be done in same way you would create an application. Different environments have different needs and since our users are restricted, I have to install IP-based printers for them. I write batch files which download and install the driver, create an IP port, and connect the driver, friendly name, and port together.
In our school district we have a need for printers to be installed by IP address. Certain end users would cease to function if they were unable to printe because a server was rebooting or what have you. First I was looking for a way to install printers by IP faster than the normal 'add a printer', 'add a local printer', 'create a new port' and that whole time-consuming process.

To make it work, just search for unidrv.hlp and manually add it into the driver folder (works for most specific drivers too if you pull the.hlp out of the.cab).
